Greif’s freedom of composition - open to elisabethan quotes as well as Beethoven’s influence, similar to the approach of his master Luciano Berio - facinated Patrick Langot and the Syntonia Ensemble in the Quartet n°2.
The Battle of Agincourt for two cellists is inspired by anglican quotes of the XIVe, a ciaccona, a song of the Warsaw gettho and poetry of Keats. From all this material, moving and spiritual pieces take shape.
Alain Buet sings in the second quartet Shakespearian sonnets on time passing by, death (which was probably felt by Olivier Greif at that time) Patrick Langot & Agnes Vesterman - very committed to contemporary music (Nicolas Bacri, Regis Campo & Philippe Forget wrote for them duets) - give birth to this other meditation of death (battle fields of Agincourt (1415) and Warsaw’s Ghetto).
